What do spiders eat, and how could I make a cheap simple home for it?

Okay, well I found this spider on my floor and I caught it in one of those machine things where you get a toy in it. So those things have air holes and it looks like it's really cramped in the little ball. So I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to make my pet spider a little house to live in . ( House hold items please )

My spider recently caught something and rolled it into a ball of web and I guess it's been feeding on that for a couple of weeks ( Maybe 2 ) and I just thought that maybe it'd be hungry. So I wanted to try to catch some things for my spider to eat.
P.S : My spider's name is Mark.

I'm sure Mark would be better off in something larger.
He will also eat just about any insect he can trap in the web.
A dozen small feed crickets are about a dollar at most pet stores.
(thats over a months worth of food)
All he will need is a place to spin a web, and a place to hide.
They can go a long time without food, but do need water.
A tiny piece of apple or pear every week should be fine.
If you put him in a glass jar, just make sure it doesn't get too hot.
