We opened up a relic that has been in the family for generations. What is it?
The relic was wrapped in a number of tapestries sewn together and each enveloping the next. After each of the cloths had been separated, there remained a small book similarly sewn to the cloth. The book contains what looks like a playing card which has been ink-printed. There is also a variety of other items including a 'popely' figure imprinted into an indeterminable object which is like a wax-piece. There is also broken glass within the relic along with what looks like ash which seems to be somewhat shaped or cut
Does anyone know what this could be?
Yes, it sounds like a spell. But my intuition is telling me it wasn't a spell against someone, it was a spell of protection someone cast upon themselves. There is something called a "Witch's Bottle" and this kind of reminds me of that. Rusty nails or broken glass is put in the bottle...among other things and then it is supposed to be buried. If anyone ever digs it up, the spell of protection is broken.
It sounds like one of your ancestors wanted to make sure this wouldn't be found and they didn't want to chance someone digging it up.
